PAY
Dignity and Respect for Our Work:
We do valuable work for a top-ranked research university, and want our compensation to reflect the dedication and expertise that we bring to the institution.
Improved Pay and Secure Benefits:
With a union contract, the administration would have to negotiate with us before making changes to the benefits that keep us healthy, give us access to education, and allow our families to thrive.
A Say in Decisions that Impact Us:
As a Union, we will make decisions democratically to address the issues that matter to us. We are the union! We will negotiate with the administration as equals in order to advocate for our interests and create a system that works better for everyone.
Making Pitt a Better Place to Work for All:
We love working at Pitt! We respect the institution, and we know that together, we can make things better. We will work with the administration to create a just culture of mutual respect that affirms the values of the entire Pitt community. This will allow us to do our best work to support Pitt’s mission, while also empowering us to address issues that affect our working lives.
I support the Staff Union of Pitt because I know that we are stronger together. Pitt turns out world-class research and education every year and none of that would be possible without the research assistants, the data managers, the grants administrators, and the lab techs on the front line. I have seen how hard my fellow staff worked throughout the pandemic and believe that we deserve a seat at the bargaining table to help make this university the best it can be.

I support the staff union because staff can be more connected to the University community if they have a voice in the decisions that are made, can give feedback for improvement, and can confidently share thoughts of concern in order to create a better working environment for all. With my extensive background in working with unions, I have seen the impact they can have where staff and administration can collaborate and come to decisions that positively benefit all stakeholders. With a staff union, I believe people will be able to sit at the table and be even more committed to creating an environment where everyone benefits from the decisions being made.

I support the staff union because, in my 20 years at Pitt, I've seen the futility of trying to advocate as an individual voice. A rising tide lifts all boats, and it's been low tide at Pitt for too long. Working together as a union, we would be stronger together and able to negotiate with the administration as equals.
