We need a staff union because staff at Pitt deserve a voice in the terms of their employment. As staff that make this university work, we deserve to have a say. By having a union to give us that power, not only can we be happier in our jobs, but we can also make the university work better.

Who we are.
Why we are organizing a union.
We are the staff workers of the University of Pittsburgh’s five campuses. We are the advisors, researchers, scientists, library and technology specialists, accountants, educators, designers, counselors, and administrative assistants who make the University work! We support students and faculty. We write grants, secure funding, and manage complex financial and record-keeping systems. We make sure computers work and networks stay online. We plan events and coordinate scheduling. We craft and refine communications, run the University stores, and welcome countless visitors daily. We advocate for our students, programs, and communities, and play an integral role in campus life. In short, we make Pitt work.
We are forming a union because every worker at Pitt deserves a seat at the table where decisions are made, and an increase in pay and benefits.
We believe in the outstanding mission of Pitt and are committed to building a university system that staff, faculty, students, and community stakeholders can be proud of. Forming our union will help the University to attract, retain, and motivate the best talent. As one of the region’s largest employers, we can also help set the standard and raise the working conditions of everyone in our community.
